For International Women’s Day 2020, Dr. Katrin Juling took the time to give us a little insight into her career path at Eurofins Genomics.
Following her doctorate in animal genetics at Technical University of Munich, Katrin started her professional career as Sales and Marketing Manager at Eurofins Genomics’ Applied Genomics department. She found herself to be willing to take the initiative and soon was assigned the responsibility for many projects and customer interactions in the field of agricultural and food authenticity testing. Due to her extensive expertise and experience, she was able to contribute to successfully resolving of the 2013 horse meat scandal where Eurofins Genomics played an essential role as the major testing lab in Europe.
In 2017, it was decided to organise the Eurofins Genomics’ Business Development Team under Katrin as Director. The team manages large customer projects in agrigenomics, food testing, pharma and consumer genomics, and consists of application specialists for next-generation sequencing, qPCR, genotyping and microarrays.
Katrin believes in encouraging girls to pursue their interests in science and strengthening their self-confidence so that they also could lead a team of scientist at an international operating company.
Katrin’s advice for women and men is to live their own passion, to trust in their education and abilities and to belief strongly in their own judgement. Being successful depends on one’s self-esteem and willingness to take over responsibility. Everyone can make it happen.
